Outstanding article, which was just shared with me yesterday! I've been discussing these same principles about what is "social video," for something that has real meaning and value on both a professional and personal level. I've often described social media as the blending of online media into human relationships for the co-creation of value. This article gives a great overview of the history of "media" as we know it not just as an informational resource, but a catalyst for conversations and further action. Now with SOPA and PIPA legislation in Congress, we're seeing again how old media and their big business cronies are trying to cripple new media.

What you write is informed and insightful. Do you believe Old Media will reinvent themselves into New Media, or do you think they don't get it because they still think of themselves as the gatekeepers?
